American Lyme Disease Foundation (ALDF)

A national organization dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and control of LYME DISEASE and other tick-borne infections. The foundation supports critical scientific research and plays a key role in providing reliable and scientifically accurate information about tick-borne diseases. The ALDF hosts national, regional, and local conferences to educate medical and public health professionals. The foundation also provides key information about the importance of prevention and early intervention in avoiding complicated, expensive, and potentially debilitating long-term illness. The foundation offers information, community presentations, a physician referral service, and a Hispanic education service. In 2001 the foundation awarded three research grants focusing on tick biocontrol methods, tick population surveillance and testing, and ecology of tick-borne disease agents. These grants ranged from $12,500 to $25,000 and were renewed annually (depending on initial progress and available funds) for a total of three years.
