Inflamed eyelids characterized by red, irritated scaly skin at the edges of the lids.
This common eyelid infection is associated with dandruff, allergy, or eczema of the scalp. Ulcerative blepharitis is caused by a bacterial infection.
Burning and discomfort in the eyes, with ﬂakes or crusts on lashes. Sometimes the surface of the eye may also be inﬂamed and red, and sometimes even the roots of the eyelashes may be affected.
Scales can be removed with cotton moistened with warm water. The inﬂammation often recurs, which requires more treatment. Ulcerated eyelids must be treated by a physician, since severe cases can lead to problems with the cornea.
